What is a Music Audiologist?

Music audiology is a subspecialty in the field of audiology with emphasis on the care of music industry professionals. Music audiology can include hearing conservation and hearing loss prevention, hearing disorder management, and amplification of hearing loss. Our audiologist, Dr. London Gleghorn, is a music audiologist. Through continuing education, specialized training, and experience, London has developed additional skills that make her adept at meeting the specific hearing health needs of people in the music industry.

Sound Access offers product consultations and demonstrations. We have models and demos available of the products we carry, as well as expert advise to make sure you find the right product to meet your listening needs.

Ear mold impressions

The ear mold impression process is vital for fitting custom-fit products. Ear mold impressions must be done correctly to guarantee proper fit allowing your ear pieces and/or monitors to function properly. Ear mold impressions should be done by a skilled practitioner to ensure safety and accuracy. Our audiologist, Dr. Gleghorn, has training and years of experience in making proper impressions of your ears.

Loud sounds and noises can damage your hearing.

Your risk of hearing damage is effected by:

  • how loud the sound is
  • how long you are exposed to the loud sound
  • how often you are exposed to loud sounds
  • individual risk factors of susceptibility
  • Schedule by appointment only
  • Evening and Saturday appointments are available
  • Mobile appointments are available
  • Closed Fridays and Sundays

Your hearing is important!

At Sound Access we recommend that you have a full diagnostic hearing test annually.

  • Have you had your hearing tested? Even if you do not suspect any hearing loss, it is important to have a baseline hearing test. We can use this hearing test to compare to future evaluations to determine if the measures you are taking to maintain your hearing are sufficient.
  • "But I'm afraid I'll have hearing loss!" Ignorance of potential hearing loss doesn't make it go away or make it any better. You might be pleasantly surprised and learn you do not have any loss, but even if we determine there is loss, knowledge of how much and at what frequencies can help you take the steps towards managing negative effects and we can make a plan to protect the hearing you still have.
  • "I had my hearing tested five years ago and it was fine." Awesome, it's great that you got a baseline and fantastic that your hearing was normal; however, it is important to have your hearing tested annually, especially if you are exposed to loud sounds. The annual hearing test can potentially detect slight changes in hearing that you do not notice on a day-to-day basis (our bodies are amazing at compensating). This can help determine if we need to make adjustments to your hearing protection strategies that could prevent subtle changes from becoming significant changes.
  • Did you know? At Sound Access we can test up to 20,000 Hz. This is important for musicians, audio engineers, and other music and audio professionals who utilize the full range of hearing. If you have had a previous hearing test that tested the typical test frequencies (250-8000 Hz) used for communication assessment but would like to know how you hear past 8,000 Hz, contact us to schedule a hearing test.

We recognize that your listening needs are different than the average hearing aid user. Dr. Gleghorn has a passion for helping people get the most music enjoyment out of their hearing aids and works closely with those she works with to get their sound just right.

Cerumen, or earwax, is naturally produced by the ears and helps to lubricate our ear canals and prevent debris from getting too far down in the ear canal. Earwax typically clears on its own, but in some instances it can accumulate, especially if you wear earpugs, in-ear monitors, or hearing aids for long periods. Too much earwax can cause earache, tinnitus, decreased hearing, or ear fullness. If a blockage occurs, it may need to be removed.
